Strategically located in the vibrant Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham City Centre, the fabric of which has been galvanized with progress. For those who are in the market for elegance and exquisiteness, you will find it here at Sydenham Place.
As stewards of a historically significant building, we strive to revive that cultural legacy built by Robert Sydenham in which every labour is first a labour of love, a cultural legacy in which profit making is but a by-product of integrity, studiousness, passion and hard work.
The magnificence of the building is a testimonial of the period of resourcefulness and great prosperity in which it was built. It also recalls a period in the history of the Jewellery Quarter when under the impeccable acumen and masterful guidance of Robert Sydenham, flower beds and flower farms once again blossomed and bloomed and thrived even in the scantiest enclosures.
This was a thing which had grown disappointingly impossible before Robert Sydenham came into the picture, given the rather barren spring and smoke-tainted skies characteristic of the manufacturing centre that was Jewellery Quarter and it’s environs. In Robert Sydenham's lifetime, it was that once again, as in the words of Reginald Heber, “Spring unlocks the flowers to paint the laughing soil”.
The rapturous beauty of the Sydenham Place is integral to the enjoyment of your Birmingham living experience. The detailing, the lines, the proportions, the symmetry, the spacing and the chosen building materials are all carefully preserved and/or selected to depict Robert Sydenham’s high regard for perfection, keenness of attention, and his love for detail, order and neatness.
As you interact with the building, let the aesthetics and architecture evoke in you a deep sense of gratitude and respect for the role which Mr Robert Sydenham has played in the history of the Jewellery Quarter and of Birmingham.
It is with pride that we participate in the preservation of this remarkable piece of history and of Robert Sydenham’s exuberant life and legacy. And we invite you to participate in the same experience with us.

The Jewellery Quarter is located just outside of Birmingham in the UK, on the northwestern edge of the city centre. With a population of over 1.1 million vivaciously industrious people, a stable and advanced financial sector, a well connected transport system and first class shopping and leisure facilities, Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter is Britain’s second city.
Less than 400 yards from the heart of the dynamic Jewellery Quarter and less than 900 yards from St Paul’s Square, a renaissance classic.
However, it is determined to retain all the heritage of the history which has preceded us and in the preservation of which we are proud to participate.
The Chamberlain Clock is a Jewellery Quarter landmark. Standing at the junction of Vyse Street and Frederick Street with Warstone Lane, this Edwardian cast-iron clock tower dates back to 1903.
St Paul's Church is located in the Georgian St Paul's Square, St Paul's Church is Grade I Listed and dates back to the 1770s. It is renowned as being the church of Birmingham's early manufacturers and merchants, including the famous city industrialists James Watt and Matthew Boulton.
It is a land of industry, whereby it grew to become what is now Europe’s largest concentration of businesses involved in the jewellery trade peaking in the early 1990s.
More recently, the area has continued to trade in the jewellery industry. However, what used to be strictly an industrial region, has now been expanded to include boutique shops, specialist stores, 5-star cafes, bars and night spots along with high value living accommodation for those who live, work and play in the city centre.
The greatest horticulturist and seedsman ever to come out of Birmingham and indeed all of the UK, is a story of possibility borne out of an impossible climate, of a business built with matchless integrity and unflinching zeal.
Sydenham Place was, once upon a time, the spacious corner block of warehouses and offices built on the land adjoining the premises on Tenby Street where Robert Sydenham worked in the jewellery firm and where the jewellery warehouse was located and which he later converted into his headquarters for his seed and bulb trade.
